The Flesherton & District Farmers’ Market is proud to be a Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge Signatory, joining a community of like-minded industry leaders in Bruce, Grey and Simcoe Counties who are committed to addressing the global issues facing our communities and the planet. As such, we commit to measure and improve the market's sustainability performance between now and 2030.
The UN World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”
We pledge to:
- Support Local: Prioritize vendors within a specific radius to reduce transportation emissions and support the local economy.
- Promote cultural and natural heritage: Partner with local organizations and sites to promote the unique cultural and natural heritage of Grey Highlands.
- Waste Reduction: Implement zero-waste initiatives, such as plastic-free policies or organic waste composting programs.
- Education: Host local market gardeners, agricultural societies and Climate Action organizations to educate visitors on sustainable agriculture and seasonal food harvests.
- Inclusivity: Conduct an accessibility audit to ensure the market is welcoming and accessible to all community members.
