Welcome to our blog and first post

Flesherton Farmers' Market - Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Well it seems that spring is finally here. The snow has gone, the bluebirds and tree swallows are back and I’ve heard the spring peepers 3 times… Which means the countdown is on for rhubarb at the market.

Our market Manager Elfriede and husband Anthony of Farm Away love rhubarb so much that they grow hundreds and hundreds of plants. That’s a lot of rhubarb. What does one do with that much rhubarb? They sell most of it to all those rhubarb loving customers at the market Elfriede does save some for themselves as they eat a lot of rhubarb too. Their favourite way to use it is as simple stewed rhubarb ladled over vanilla ice cream or Anthony’s absolute favourite, with Devon custard. A different way to use rhubarb is in Rhubarb Muffins. Sweet and tart and delicious. Coming soon, asparagus and spinach and strawberries… can’t wait.
